Paprika came in 2006, which was ahead of it's time, if I could have watched it back then, it would have gone over my head. But watching it now makes all the sense. Watching Paprika makes me realize how far ahead the Anime industry is from Hollywood in terms of story, technique, and visions and approach to a subject.
Inception seemed original back then in 2010, but it is based heavily on Paprika. Not just Inception, even Blade runner 2048, Joi, the hologram character seemed to be inspired by Paprika.
